Employees' families protest after Rs65 million theft at Edhi Foundation centre, demanding arrests and recovery of stolen salaries.

A four‑armed robbery at the Sohrab Goth centre of the Edhi Foundation resulted in the loss of 65 million Pakistani rupees that was earmarked for workers’ salaries. Families of the affected employees, joined by labour groups, civil society activists and ordinary citizens, marched outside the Karachi Press Club on Sunday carrying placards and chanting slogans. Among the demonstrators were the foundation’s chairman Faisal Edhi, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan chairman Asad Iqbal Butt, National Trade Union Federation secretary general Nasir Mansoor, and Pakistan Peoples Party Labour Bureau leader Habibuddin Junaidi, who all expressed solidarity. Chairman Edhi said the robbery was “deeply distressing,” noting that the employees come from low‑income families whose households were left without money and that the suspects had not yet been arrested. He urged the Sindh chief minister to ensure their immediate arrest, recover the stolen money and deliver justice. Iqbal Butt added that the incident raised serious questions for the Sindh government and described the robbery at a charitable organisation as “deeply regrettable.” He demanded the government provide immediate financial assistance to the foundation and compensate it for the missing amount. Family members asked the Sindh government to guarantee payment of the workers’ salaries, secure the foundation’s centres, and prosecute the robbery’s perpetrators. They also wanted an explanation from the Sindh inspector general of police for the failure to arrest the suspects. No arrests have been reported, and the investigation remains underway, according to the press club authorities who welcomed the demonstration.
