Faisalabad records 180 deaths in 18,728 road crashes despite police enforcement drives and checkpoints over seven months.

In the first seven months of 2026, Faisalabad district logged 18,728 road traffic accidents. The crashes caused 180 deaths and 21,827 injuries, according to official data from the district. All 180 fatalities were linked to speeding. Many of the injured, including women and children, suffered severe fractures and permanent disabilities, with some losing limbs. Traffic police and Highway Patrol Police carried out enforcement drives across the district, setting up checkpoints and issuing challans worth millions of rupees to improve traffic discipline. The authorities also ran awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, universities, banks, factories, and mills, but the accident rate remains a concern. Monthly accident counts ranged from 2,325 in June to 3,018 in March, with deaths per month ranging from 17 to 36. Residents criticised the police, alleging that officers focused more on issuing fines than on preventing accidents.
