FDA Canal Road plan questioned over past failures: planners call for better traffic management and service roads.

Planners and civil‑society groups have questioned the FDA’s proposal to remodel Canal Road in Faisalabad. They point out that similar beautification projects have not solved traffic problems and have cost millions. The FDA plan, based on an engineering study, would build two new bridges, add two U‑turns on each side of Canal Road, remove ten existing ramps, and construct four new ramps linking the road to a service road. It also aims to improve connectivity between Samundri Road and the Canal Expressway. Critics argue that without better enforcement, motorcycle segregation, and properly connected service roads, even large spending will not reduce accidents. They call for a comprehensive engineering solution involving consultants and public consultation. A meeting chaired by Commissioner Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh reviewed the plan with FDA Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhry, Director Development Asif Chauhan, Chief Traffic Officer Nasir Javed, and other department heads. The commission will examine the document in coordination with all relevant departments to reduce traffic pressure and improve travel facilities.
