Federal Minister and Sindh Governor Announce Coordinated Efforts to Reduce Marine Pollution and Safeguard Blue Economy.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi met to discuss the threat of marine pollution from untreated sewage. They reviewed how polluted water harms fish habitats, mangrove forests, and coral reefs, and causes a drop in dissolved oxygen that disrupts marine life. Leaders said sewage drives fish away from affected areas, hurting local fisheries and the livelihoods that depend on them. Both sides highlighted the importance of healthy coastal ecosystems for the blue economy, an industry that relies on marine resources. Chaudhry noted that the Marine Pollution Control Board is already working to reduce pollution and that a joint meeting with the Sindh government is planned. Hashmi warned that pollution is a public‑health risk, especially for Karachi residents who face polluted waters. The ministers agreed to strengthen institutional coordination and jointly prepare long‑term measures to protect coastal ecosystems and support sustainable growth of the blue economy.
