Former Pakistan Shot‑Put Record Holder Urges Javelin Champion Arshad Nadeem to Train in Europe for Future Success.

Former national shot‑put record holder Zafar Ibn‑e‑Yaqoob urged Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem to move his training base to Europe, citing Germany as the ideal location. He said that to stay at the top of the sport, Nadeem must train alongside the world’s leading athletes. Zafar made the comments after Nadeem’s showing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where the 29‑year‑old finished ninth and did not reach the top eight. He also urged Nadeem’s coach, Salman Butt, to accompany him abroad, saying local coaching would not be enough to preserve Nadeem’s elite status. Nadeem’s upcoming competitions are the World Ultimate Athletics Championships in Hungary on September 11‑13 and the Asian Games in Aichi‑Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. Zafar noted that Nadeem won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a Games record throw of 92.97 metres, but his later performances have dipped even though he still earned gold at the Islamic Games and Asian Championships and silver at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. He added that Nadeem needs a stronger strength and conditioning programme and better weight training to reach top international performances. Zafar called Nadeem a naturally gifted athlete who will benefit from training in a world‑class environment.
