Karachi Board Reconstituted to Exhume IBA Graduate Mir Raza Ali’s Body, Prompting Family Lawyer’s Protest.

A Karachi court had ordered the exhumation of Institute of Business Administration graduate Mir Raza Ali’s body a day earlier. The court directed the police surgeon and the Sindh health secretary to set up a medico‑legal board to conduct the procedure. The Sindh health department created an eight‑member board led by police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed. Other members were Prof Dr Naseem Ahmed (DUHS), Dr Farah Waseem (JSMU), Amir Hassan Khan (CPLC), Dr Sirichand (additional police surgeon), Dr Kamran Khan, Dr Daniyal Mirza (JPMC), and Dr Mohammed Yaseen (admin in‑charge of the police surgeon office). A new directive from the Directorate General Health Services in Hyderabad changed the board’s composition. Dr Syed remained the convener. Replaced members included Prof Dr Zakiuddin (DUHS), Prof Dr Kazi Akbar, and Prof Dr Abid Hussain Chang (Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences) and Hyderabad Police Surgeon Dr Waseem Khan. Jibran Nasir, lawyer for Ali’s family, warned on X that the government had altered the board “maliciously” without providing an explanation. He said the family was not authorising the new board and would not allow the exhumation to take place the following morning, citing concerns that evidence could be compromised. The lawyer said the fresh notification would be challenged legally. The change has drawn public attention to the procedural aspects of medico‑legal investigations in Karachi.
