Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Rejects Proposal to Detach Haripur and Abbottabad Districts for Islamabad Annexation, Upholding Provincial Integrity.

On Friday, the Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa Assembly adopted a resolution rejecting any attempt to detach Haripur and Abbottabad districts and merge them into the federal capital, Islamabad. The vote was unanimous. Provincial Minister Akbar Ayub introduced the resolution, which categorically opposed any proposal by the federal government that would alter the province’s boundaries. The resolution stated that all districts, including Haripur and Abbottabad, are an inseparable part of K‑P and cannot be detached under any circumstances. The resolution highlighted that changes to provincial boundaries would violate the rights of K‑P residents, provincial autonomy, the federal system and constitutional principles. It also warned that any effort to seize the province’s water resources, hydropower projects, minerals and forests would be unacceptable. The House demanded that the federal government abandon all such proposals and respect K‑P’s constitutional, geographical and administrative status. It called on political parties, elected representatives, legal institutions, civil society, youth and the media to defend the province’s unity and public rights. During the same session, PPP Member of the Provincial Assembly Mehr Sultana moved an adjournment motion regarding a lack of law compelling doctors to prescribe medicines by generic formula and to use computerized prescriptions. She urged the provincial government to introduce legislation on these issues. The Assembly’s resolution emphasizes that K‑P’s territorial integrity and constitutional autonomy remain fundamental, and it serves as a firm statement against any federal action that might threaten these principles.
