In response to a woman’s alleged rape inside Ghaziabad police station, the Lahore Divisional Inspector General ordered that women leave police stations before sunset. The directive was issued to all divisional superintendents of police and station house officers. The order specifies that only with the approval of a senior officer may a woman remain after dark. It also bars the station from summoning female complainants or accused persons to the station after sunset. Police officers are told to hear complaints from women immediately and to resolve the issues as a priority. All legal procedures involving women must take place during daylight. The incident prompted the suspension of the station’s entire staff and triggered a high‑level investigation. Authorities say the new SOP aims to safeguard women’s dignity, safety and protection.
