Man shot dead on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road after opening fire on security personnel, police say.
A rawalpindi police statement says a man named Muhammad Hussain was killed in retaliatory fire on Tuesday after he allegedly opened fire on security forces on Mall Road. The weaponry discharged by him injured an official.
Police confirmed that evidence from Hussain’s mobile phone and other belongings is being examined, and that the investigation is continuing.
Law‑enforcement agencies stated they remain prepared to address terrorism and unrest.
Security sources said Hussain was a resident of Khyber district and an active PTI member. Items recovered from him included a handgun, bullets and a red and green cloth.
The Information Minister remarked that there was no justification for firing at security personnel, criticized the party’s habit of bringing weapons to protests, and noted that a long march to Islamabad is scheduled for September 27.
The minister further described how armed protests have caused violence, citing that security officers were targeted in broad daylight during such incidents.
