On‑duty cop martyred, another injured in Lakki Marwat attack following terrorist shooting near Saeedkhel graveyard.
Police reported that while patrolling near the Saeedkhel graveyard, a constable was killed and another was seriously wounded.
District police spokesperson Qudratullah Khan said the terrorists opened fire on the rider squad during the patrol. The fallen officer was Constable Sajidullah; the wounded was Constable Muhammad Waqas.
Both the dead body and the injured officer were taken to Government City Hospital as a large police contingent surrounded the site and began a search for the assailants.
Security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced increasing attacks. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies’ monthly assessment, released July 31, noted that security‑personnel deaths from terrorism rose to 38 in July from 12 in June. Terrorist deaths increased to 108 from 37, a 192 % rise. Civilian deaths fell to seven from 26, and one peace‑committee member was also killed.
In the merged districts, security‑personnel deaths rose to 11 from six, terrorist deaths fell to 55 from 72, and civilian deaths increased to 13 from seven.
