Pakistan Airports Authority launches multibillion‑rupee upgrade drive, completing new Gwadar International Airport and rebuilding Karachi runway.

The Pakistan Airports Authority has launched a multibillion‑rupee expansion and modernization drive to upgrade aviation infrastructure across the country. The new Gwadar International Airport is finished at a cost of Rs55 billion, and Karachi Airport’s main runway has been rebuilt for Rs10 billion. The authority also completed rehabilitation and upgrades at Dera Ismail Khan, Parachinar and Turbat. Large‑scale projects are underway at Lahore and Skardu, with Rs43 billion earmarked for Lahore and Rs70 billion for Skardu. Other initiatives include a cargo village at Karachi, a new air traffic control tower at Peshawar, and a maintenance‑repair‑overhaul facility at Islamabad. The programme also introduced Islamabad Airport as the country’s first fully cashless hub and will introduce modern security‑screening systems, e‑gates and air traffic management systems across all airports.
