Pakistan government cuts petrol price by Rs1.70, raises high‑speed diesel by Rs1.39 per litre.

The government announced a reduction in petrol price by Rs1.70 to Rs325.92 per litre and an increase in high‑speed diesel (HSD) price by Rs1.39 to Rs382.25 per litre. The change takes effect on August 12, with taxes remaining at Rs114 per litre for petrol and Rs100 per litre for HSD. HSD had peaked at Rs520.35 on April 3 after climbing from Rs281 following the start of the US‑Iran conflict on February 28. Petrol reached a peak of Rs458.41 on April 3 after an earlier rise from Rs266 in the first week of March. The Petroleum Division’s notification states that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority will set daily fuel prices on the basis of international market trends. The All Pakistan Dealers Association rejected the daily pricing decision and said it would consider a protest plan. Petrol is the primary fuel for private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws and two‑wheelers, while diesel powers heavy transport, power plants and large generators. Petrol and HSD together generate about 700 000 to 800 000 tonnes of sales each month, compared with 10 000 tonnes of kerosene demand.
