Peshawar court unblocks ID cards of four accused in May 9 protest case and withdraws arrest warrants.

A Peshawar sessions court on Saturday unblocked identity cards for four accused in the May 9 protest case. The court also cancelled the proclamation proceedings against them and withdrew their arrest warrants. The order applied to Younas Zahir, Jalal, Asad and Arshad. The court also directed the Station House Officer to verify the death of one accused, Mahir Khan, and to submit a confirmatory report after a death certificate was presented. During the hearing 27 nominated suspects appeared, including Provincial Minister Meena Khan Afridi, former district nazim Arbab Asim and former Senate candidate Irfan Saleem. The court noted that interim challans had not yet been received for Arshad Aqib, Mahboobur Rehman, Kamran and Khalid Jan. The prosecution said the protest near Family Park on GT Road on May 9 damaged private and government property and injured nearly ten police personnel. The court adjourned further hearings to September 10.
