After a days‑long delay, President Asif Ali Zardari gave his assent to the appointment and confirmation of additional judges for several high courts on Tuesday. The Presidency announced that the appointments were made to the Lahore High Court, Sindh High Court, Peshawar High Court, Islamabad High Court, and Balochistan High Court. It also confirmed the granting of permanent status to a number of additional judges in the Sindh and Lahore high courts. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan recommended the appointments on July 20 and 21, and they had been pending until the president’s approval.
