PTI Demands Immediate Access for Imran Khan Amid Health Concerns and Prolonged Solitary Confinement.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that repeated reports about the founder’s health have caused "profound anxiety and restlessness across the entire nation" and urged the government to allow access for doctors, lawyers, family and party leaders. Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023, serving a sentence for a £190 million corruption case and facing pending trials under the Anti‑Terrorism Act related to the May 9, 2023 protests. The PTI statement noted that Khan has been kept in solitary confinement for an extended period, with no regular meetings with family members and without permission for the party’s political leadership to visit. The party demanded that the government arrange meetings for Khan with his family members, personal physicians and lawyers, and that a complete medical examination be conducted under the supervision of his personal physicians in the presence of family members, with "full transparency". Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram warned that “floating unverified rumours while keeping him in prolonged isolation is a dangerous and irresponsible game” and called for proof and end of the blackout. In late January, Khan was taken to a hospital for a minor eye procedure that lasted about 20 minutes; the Public Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) confirmed an anti‑VEGF intravitreal injection to treat central retinal vein occlusion. A March check‑up at Adiala showed improvement in his vision following a second dose, and a third dose was administered on March 23. Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi addressed a party gathering outside the Supreme Court and said that the government should not deny Khan humanity and must transfer him to a hospital for treatment. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja stated that "extremely alarming news has emerged from jail" regarding Khan’s health, adding that the reports had "shaken the entire country". PTI parliamentarians, CM Afridi and lawyers from the Insaf Lawyers Forum staged a protest outside the Supreme Court, met with the registrar, and demanded that Khan’s cases be heard immediately and that access to his doctors and sisters be possible.
