Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia defence pact equals NATO's Article 5, Turkish official says today.

On Aug. 8, 2026, the Turkish Defence Minister said the newly signed pact between Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia contains a clause that is formally equivalent to NATO’s Article 5. The statement came during the signing ceremony, reported by Reuters. An Article 5 clause obliges each member to act in response to an attack on any one member. The Turkish minister highlighted that the pact features the same technical provision. The scope of the pact and any plans for additional participants remain uncertain, as no other nations have joined or announced intentions to join.
