On Sunday, two tribal elders were shot dead in the Zarmilan area of Toi Khulla tehsil, Lower South Waziristan. The victims were Haji Gul and Malik Badshah, members of the Suleman Khel tribe. They were traveling in a vehicle from Gul Kach toward Zarmilan when gunmen opened fire near Darozanda. Both men sustained multiple bullet wounds and died at the scene. The attackers fled after the shooting. Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa police registered a preliminary report at Toi Khulla police station and are investigating the incident. Police said the investigation will examine every aspect of the case and is working to identify and arrest the suspects. The district has experienced a rise in targeted killings, bomb blasts, kidnappings, extortion and attacks on security personnel over the past 18 months. Tribal elders and families have also been targeted, raising concerns about the safety of influential tribal figures who traditionally mediate disputes. Residents in Lower South Waziristan have called for stronger security measures to protect tribal elders and civilians.
