Woman abducted and tortured after securing inherited land in Sahiwal, six attackers arrested by police.

Mardan Bibi had claimed ownership of land that had been occupied illegally for nearly thirty years. The land was returned to her after intervention by the Pera Force, police, revenue department, and district administration. A group of twelve armed attackers, including three women, took her by force, subjected her to torture, and fled when a Yousafwala police team arrived. The first information report lists the attackers as armed with pistols and rifles and records the abduction under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. Police rescued Mardan Bibi, seized six of the attackers, and are conducting raids to locate the remaining suspects who escaped on motorcycles. The incident highlighted the continued tension over inherited property and the challenges of enforcing law in rural districts of Punjab.
