Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day is approaching, and markets, commercial centres, and residential streets in Pindi are filling with stalls selling national flags, badges, and flag‑themed objects.
The stalls offer a variety of goods. Items include national flags, badge sets, flag‑themed children’s garments, dupattas for women, and gifts such as toys and caps. Horns of various sizes are also on sale; large horns are popular for their loud "pee‑pee" sounds.
Several young people also set off firecrackers, including Chinese‑manufactured ones. The increasing demand has caused the prices of flags and flag‑themed clothing to double.
The large horns cost between Rs150 and Rs200. Their constant noise has made life difficult for residents in streets and neighbourhoods, disturbing sleep and peace.
Overall, the stalls add colour and activity to markets, but the noise and rising prices are affecting the comfort of citizens.
